Mental Health

Your mental health is essential to your overall well-being. It affects how you think, feel, behave and how you interact daily with people around you. Maintaining good mental health is living well and knowing you are able to manage yourself in the face of everyday challenges.

Mental health should not be confused with mental illness which causes a person to have reduced ability to function effectively over a protracted period of time. Examples of mental illness are depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and schizophrenia.

Although mental health is not the same as mental illness, when a person neglects their mental health, this could result in mental and physical illness. Maintaining good mental health promotes good feelings about oneself, and it allows you to feel, think and behave in ways that help you enjoy life and cope with its challenges.
